Turbocharging

We have a wealth of experience in Turbo Charger Engineering, and a s a result, we stock a comprehensive range of standard and modified turbochargers for all Renault turbo cars. It is best to contact us with your exact requirements, whether for Race or Road, and we will have a good solution for you. We also stock uprated actuators, high efficiency all alloy intercoolers, aeroquip feed pipes, re-inforced group A turbo hoses, silicone turbo and water hoses, and in-car boost adjusting kits, both mechanical and electronic.

All Turbocharger Hybrids are carefully designed according to airflow and pressure requirements. They are generally designed to be able to run reliably at higher boost pressures, higher compressor efficiency and produce higher air flow outputs. They will normally make a vehicle feel a lot more responsive with less ‘turbo lag’, increase the torque throughout the rev range as well as increase the power output from the engine at lower RPM levels. Some hybrids are available ex-stock, some specially built to order and some require the customers’ original unit for conversion.

Modifications – all the following hybrids are designed to be capable of running higher than standard boost pressures and are fitted with a standard actuator set at standard boost pressure unless stated below or requested. On most applications, some engine modifications are advisable such as a larger bore exhaust/flowed head/fuelling/high flow intercooler/oil cooler.

Left hand thread shaft, martinite M247 turbine wheels; titanium nitride piston ring seals; enlarged oil feed capacity Group A 360 degree thrust bearing; lightened ‘low noise’ race journal bearings; rally specification hard anodising of compressor wheel; two stage boost facility; choice of up-rated actuator.

Ceramic Ball-Bearing Option
Available for T3 and T3/T4 turbochargers in standard or hybrid trim. This new technology ceramic ball-bearing design allows rapid ‘spool up’, excellent transient response and durability. The design practically eliminates thrust bearing and operational surge failures. This system can handle 50 times more thrust loading than conventional turbochargers, making it ideal for severe transient and extreme pressure ratio applications.

Standard Replacement Turbos
We stock standard direct replacement turbos for all Renault cars. Please refer to our Parts List for further information.

Prima Racing reserve the right to revise, change or modify any of the turbo specifications listed.

Hybrid Turbo's & Accessories
The following information refers to our preferred list of Hybrid Turbochargers. 

Stage 1 and Stage 2 turbos in the main, can be fitted to standard engines. Stage 3 turbos upwards typically MD28, MD84, MD84R, need modified intercoolers, Group A carburettors, improved induction and exhaust systems.

More importantly engines need to be in good condition and capable of running the boost pressures quoted.

Hybrid Turbochargers

MD14 Stage 1
High flow T2 Compressor wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, 270 degree thrust bearing, large hole bearing housing. Recommended maximum boost level is 14psi
‘Recommend large bore oil feed pipe”.

MD14R Stage 2                                                  
High Flow T2 Compressor wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, 360 degree ramped thrust bearing, racing ‘staggered gap’ total seal piston ring, large hole bearing housing, up-rated 14psi single port actuator. Recommended maximum boost level is 18psi.
“Recommend large bore oil feed pipe”.

MD28 Stage 3                                                  
High flow T25 compressor wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, 360 degree ramped thrust bearing, modified large hole bearing housing, cut back turbine wheel blades, 14psi single port actuator standard, recommended max boost level is 22psi.
“Must have modified intercooler or chargecooler, competition headgasket and Group A carb, large bore exhaust, large bore modified oil feed pipe”.

MD28R Stage 4                                             
High flow T25 compressor wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, 360 degree ramped thrust bearing, modified large hole bearing housing, cut back turbine blade wheels, modified turbine housing with ported wastegate and up-rated poppet valve, racing ‘staggered gap’ total seal piston ring, choice of up-rated actuator on strengthened bracket, recommended max boost level is 25psi.

MD84 Stage 5                                                  
Modified high flow T25 CNC re-profiled compressor cover and T25 ‘inlet depression style’ bearing. 0.47 A/R turbine housing, 14psi single port actuator standard. Recommended max boost level is 28-30psi.
“Must have modified intercooler, competition headgasket and Group A carb, large bore modified oil feed pipe”.

MD84R Stage 6                                                  
Modified high flow CNC re-profiled T25 compressor cover and T25 ‘inlet depression style’ compressor wheel, 360 degree ramped thrust bearing, modified T25 bearing housing. 0.47 A/R, modified turbine housing with ported wastegate and up-rated poppet valve, racing ‘staggered gap’ total seal piston ring, choice of up-rated actuator on strengthened bracket, recommended boost level is 30-35psi.
“Must have modified intercooler or chargecooler, competition headgasket and Group A carb, large bore exhaust, large bore modified oil feed pipe”.


 

MD165 Stage 7                                                  
Modified high flow T25 compressor housing, incorporating a re-circulating dump valve, T25 ‘inlet depression style’ high flow compressor wheel, T25 high flow turbine wheel, 0.49 A/R T25 turbine housing, 18psi up-rated actuator, maximum recommended boost pressure is 35psi.
“Recommend all mods for MD84R. Not directly interchangeable with standard unit, requires different exhaust downpipe. Note: Built for drag racing purposes. Starts to produce boost at 3400 rpm and on full boost by 4000rpm”.

MD165R Stage 8                                                  
Modified high flow T25 compressor housing, incorporating a re-circulating dump valve with Kevlar diaphragm, T25 ‘inlet depression style’ high flow compressor wheel, T25 high flow turbine wheel, 0.49 A/R modified T25 turbine housing with ported wastegate and up-rated poppet valve, choice of up-rated actuator on strengthened actuator bracket, max recommended boost pressure is 38psi.
“Recommend all mods for MD84R plus engine modifications advised (forged low compression pistons, oil pump etc.) Not directly interchangeable with standard unit, requires different exhaust downpipe. Note: Built for drag racing purposes. Starts to produce boost at 3400rpm and on full boost by 4000rpm.

MD206 Stage 9                                                               
Roller bearing version of MD165, modified 0.49 A/R T25 turbine housing, GT series ‘ballistic concept’ centre housing, low inertia high flow turbine wheel, choice of up-rated actuator, max recommended boost pressure 35psi.
“Recommend all mods for MD84R and MD165R, will not fit in place of standard turbo without mods to oil drain pipe and exhaust downpipe. Starts to produce boost at 2200rpm on full boost by 3500rpm.

MD206R Stage 10                                              
Roller Bearing version of MD165R, modified 0.49 A/R T25 turbine housing with ported wastegate and up-rated poppet valve, GT series ‘ballistic concept’ centre housing, low inertia high flow turbine wheel, choice of up-rated actuator on strengthened actuator bracket, max recommended boost pressure 38psi.
“Recommend all mods for MD206R, plus engine modifications advised are forged low compression pistons, oil pump etc. Starts to produce boost at 2200rpm and on full boost by 3500rpm”.


Standard Replacement Turbochargers

We can supply or re-manufacture any Renault Turbocharger including all Diesel models. All turbo’s are supplied on an exchange basis and the exchange units must be serviceable otherwise surcharges will apply

Alpine GTA V6 Turbo

Standard Replacement Turbochargers

We can supply or re-manufacture any Renault Turbocharger including all Diesel models. All turbo’s are supplied on an exchange basis and the exchange units must be serviceable otherwise surcharges will apply.


Hybrid Turbochargers

MD127 Stage 1
High flow 60 Trim Compressor wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, bolted sintered iron thrust bearing, single racing ‘staggered gap’ total seal piston ring fitted to turbine side. Recommended boost level is 16-18psi.

MD59 Stage 2
High flow T4 Compressor Wheel, CNC re-profiled compressor housing, 360 degree ramped thrust bearing, twin racing ‘staggering gap’ total seal piston ring fitted to turbine side, left hand thread shaft & wheel assembly with cut back turbine blades, large hole bearing housing, modified back plate. Recommended maximum boost level is 25psi.
